Ongoing Monitoring Procedure

Objective

To establish a formal protocol for the continuous monitoring of all dogs under our care to ensure their safety, health, and well-being.

Scope

This procedure applies to all staff members responsible for the care of dogs at Elena’s Cosy Dog Boarding.

Procedure

1. Daily Health Checks:

  • Perform a thorough health check for each dog twice daily.
  • Check for any signs of illness, injury, or distress.
  • Record observations in the dog’s individual health log (Open Form).
2. Behavioral Observations:

  • Monitor and document each dog’s behavior throughout the day.
  • Note any changes in behavior, such as increased aggression, lethargy, or anxiety.
  • Report significant changes to the senior staff or management immediately.
3. Environmental Monitoring:

  • Ensure that the environment is safe, clean, and comfortable at all times.
  • Regularly check the cleanliness of living areas, availability of fresh water, and appropriate temperature control.
  • Document any environmental issues and address them promptly.
4. Nutritional Monitoring:

  • Adhere to each dog’s dietary plan as provided by the owner.
  • Monitor food intake and record any deviations from the norm.
  • Notify the owner and seek veterinary advice if a dog refuses to eat for more than 24 hours.
5. Exercise and Socialization:

  • Provide regular exercise and socialization opportunities for each dog, according to their individual needs.
  • Supervise all interactions to prevent conflicts and ensure safety.
  • Record activities and any notable interactions in the dog’s log.
6. Emergency Preparedness:

  • Be vigilant for signs that may require emergency intervention.
  • Have emergency contact information readily available.
  • Follow the established emergency procedures for contacting a vet or the dog’s owner if necessary.
7. Record Keeping:

  • Maintain up-to-date records for each dog, including health checks, behavior notes, and any incidents.
  • Review records regularly to identify patterns or recurring issues.
  • Ensure all records are accessible to relevant staff members and securely stored.
8. Regular Review and Training:

  • Conduct regular reviews of monitoring procedures and protocols.
  • Provide ongoing training for staff to ensure adherence to monitoring procedures.
  • Update procedures as necessary to incorporate best practices and regulatory requirements.
Review and Compliance:

  • This procedure will be reviewed annually or following any significant incident.
